Stroke Certification
The State's Only Certified Stroke Center
The Nebraska Medical Center's stroke program has received the "Gold Seal of Approval" from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations making it the first and only nationally certified stroke center in the state of Nebraska."This is a great achievement for us and great news to stroke patients, their families and physicians," said Pierre Fayad, M.D., medical director of the stroke center at The Nebraska Medical Center. "It demonstrates everyone's commitment to excellence in treating and caring for stroke patients."
In her evaluation of the program, The Joint Commission reviewer wrote, "the commitment by the stroke team to reduce stroke and disability from stroke within Nebraska and surrounding states is evident throughout the program."
"That third party validation is important for patients, their families and physicians when considering where to have their patients or loved ones go for stroke care," said Deborah Istas, executive director of Neurological Sciences at The Nebraska Medical Center.
The stroke team at The Nebraska Medical Center is poised to help patients seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The goal is to treat patients as soon as possible after the onset of stroke symptoms.
Dr. Fayad and his team have put years of work into their dream of building a nationally certified stroke program. He calls the "Gold Seal of Approval", "something for our state and the whole region to be proud of."
